THOMAS MERTON

Thomas Merton was a monk, author, and spiritual leader whose writings explored contemplation, prayer, and the search for deeper meaning. He devoted much of his life to spiritual practice while also engaging with the social and cultural issues of his time. Through his books and reflections, he helped introduce many readers to the value of silence, inner awareness, and the contemplative dimension of faith. Thomas Merton taught that genuine spiritual growth arises from self-understanding, humility, and an authentic relationship with God. He also encouraged dialogue between different religious traditions, recognizing the shared wisdom found across spiritual paths. After a meet-up to talk spirituality in the 60’s, the Dalai Lama said that Thomas Merton introduced him to the real meaning of the word 'Christian’" and that he considered Merton as one of the most influential people in his life. He also met up with Thich Nhat Hahn during his interfaith encounters
