GANESHA
by TAMARAPU SAMPATH KUMARAN
Ganesha is an elephant-headed Hindu god revered as the remover of obstacles, a symbol of wisdom, intellect, and new beginnings. He is widely known for bringing good fortune and prosperity to his devotees and is honored at the start of significant endeavors. Ganesha is often depicted with a large belly, multiple arms holding various items like an axe, a rope and his broken tusk. His vehicle is a mouse, which symbolizes his ability to overcome any fear.
The most well-known story of his origin tells how his mother, the goddess Parvati, created him to guard her while she bathed. When his father, Lord Shiva, returned and was prevented from entering by Ganesh, an angered Shiva beheaded the boy. To revive him, Shiva replaced the head with that of the first animal he found—an elephant—and decreed that he would be worshipped first in all rituals.
Dancing Ganesha, or Nritya Ganapati, is a joyous and auspicious form of Lord Ganesha. This form is depicted in a dance pose, symbolizing happiness, celebration, artistic expression, and good fortune. Devotees believe that keeping an idol of the dancing Ganesha at home brings enthusiasm, inspiration, and removes obstacles from life's path
