Shiva is one of the main deities of Hinduism and part of the Trimurti with Brahma and Vishnu. He is revered as the embodiment of cosmic creation, preservation, and transformation. He dissolves what has fulfilled its purpose so that renewal and spiritual evolution can unfold. He is closely associated with time, asceticism, yoga, meditation, and liberation. As Nataraja, the Lord of Dance, he performs the cosmic dance that symbolizes the continuous cycle of existence—creation, preservation, and transformation. Shiva is commonly depicted with a crescent moon in his hair, a third eye on his forehead, and the serpent Vasuki coiled around his neck. These symbols represent mastery over time, higher awareness, and freedom from fear and attachment. His trident, the Trishula, signifies divine power and the balance of fundamental forces in existence. Shiva is also the consort of Parvati and the father of Ganesh and Kartikeya.
