CHICKEN
Chickens are intelligent, social, and highly aware animals. They recognize faces, communicate with one another, and remain attentive to their surroundings. Their wild ancestors lived in forests and woodland edges, where constant awareness helped them find food and avoid danger. Ram Dass shared a story in Be Here Now about a teacher who gave two disciples a chicken and instructed them to kill it where no one could see. One disciple quickly completed the task, while the other returned with the chicken still alive, explaining, “Everywhere I go, the chicken sees.” The story points to the ever-present nature of awareness.
